Sarasota Waterworks
Sarasota, Florida
Sarasota Waterworks is a private, members-only business and social club located at 1005 North Orange Avenue in downtown Sarasota, Florida. Situated in an historic building, the 5,000 square foot former city "Waterworks" is a two-story, red brick, Mediterranean revival, originally constructed in 1926.
The primary objective for the Sarasota Waterworks project was to develop a unique social environment conducive to building relationships. Proprietors Rachel McAree and Robin Jennings were adamant about inclusivity—creating a space that welcomes all types of people.
Because the property is listed on the national register of historic places, Redding Construction Group had to maintain the character and integrity of the building. The result is a magnificent mix of industrial and modern design to create an inviting space. Multiple and varied light sources located throughout the space control the ambiance and balance the need for a productive environment during the day and a seductive environment at night.
To accommodate cigar smoking in the upstairs executive lounge, Redding Construction Group separated the air conditioning into different zones and built a stairwell enclosure that was inspired by an old European phone booth.
One of the emotional aspects of the project was the story behind the original bullfighting poster. Having attended the event with his father as a child, the sentimental meaning was overwhelming for the owner. It became the inspiration for the fabulous space.
"We couldn’t be more pleased with how this project turned out," says Keith Redding, President and CEO of Redding Construction Group. "Working with Rachel and Robin was a pleasure. Bringing Robin's vision to life was an adventure, and it's wonderful to see people's reaction when they walk in, truly a unique place to belong here in Sarasota."
